Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining agency buildings, equipment, vehicles, and facilities in a safe, clean, and functional condition. The role coordinates preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, vendors, supplies, and maintenance records across agency locations. The Maintenance Technician works with management, vendors, service providers, and agency staff to address facility needs and support safety and operational requirements.

 

This position is located in Staten Island, New York.

 

The agency operates in Staten Island and Brooklyn, and candidates may occasionally be temporarily assigned to either location based on program needs. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule preventive maintenance for agency buildings, equipment, heating, and air conditioning systems.
  • Perform routine repairs, cleaning, painting, basic plumbing, furniture assembly, deliveries, and general maintenance.
  • Inspect facilities to identify maintenance needs and report deficiencies or recommended improvements to management.
  • Monitor facility supplies and coordinate the ordering, receiving, distribution, and stocking of necessary materials.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and service providers to obtain quotes and complete maintenance and repair work.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs for maintenance activities, inspections, fire systems, vehicles, repairs, and required documentation.
  • Monitor security, fire, safety, and emergency systems and assist with emergency response, disaster preparedness, and fire evacuation procedures.
  • Manage vehicle maintenance, registrations, repairs, inventory, and driver violation tracking while supporting facility needs across agency locations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; trade school certification or an associate degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related maintenance or facilities experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an FDNY Certificate of Fitness and other required certifications.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, building maintenance, and mechanical systems preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical wiring, switches, outlets, circuit breakers, lighting, and transformers is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance tracking logs.
  • Strong communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, open maintenance items, and deadlines.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials, supplies, furniture, and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel between agency locations as needed.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Pay Range

USD $25.96 - USD $27.40 /Hr.
