Company Overview

The Staten Island Workforce1 Career Center is partnering with the Staten Island SBDC to find qualified candidates for a Business Advisor position in Staten Island, NY. The Staten Island SBDC provides one-on-one counseling and comprehensive small-business assistance to existing businesses, startups, and aspiring entrepreneurs. The Business Advisor will help clients navigate business formation, planning, market research, financials, and other small-business needs.

Position Overview

The Business Advisor provides one-on-one counseling and comprehensive assistance to small businesses, startups, and aspiring entrepreneurs. The role provides guidance in areas including business formation, business plan development, market research, financials, and other business matters. The advisor also conducts outreach, participates in business-related events, and leads training sessions for the small-business community. The position requires strong organization and relationship-building skills while managing a varied client caseload.

 

This position is located in Staten Island, NY.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one business counseling to clients.
  • Guide clients on business formation and business plan development.
  • Assist with market research and financial matters.
  • Document client contacts and counseling notes in the CRM system.
  • Respond to clients and external liaisons in a timely manner.
  • Conduct weekly outreach within New York Congressional District 11.
  • Lead and participate in SBDC-sponsored training sessions and events.
  • Refer clients to outside providers when appropriate.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, finance, economics, or a related field required.
  • At least three years of experience in private-sector business or a related public technical assistance environment.
  • Strong customer service skills to identify client needs, troubleshoot issues, and provide solutions.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience building and managing partnerships with external liaisons.
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
  • Valid driver's license and personal vehicle required for daily client visits.
  • Strong organizational and technical skills; detail-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with standard office computer programs, systems, and survey tools.
  • Familiarity with Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while independently managing daily responsibilities.
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of small businesses and the New York Congressional District 11 community.

Pay Range

USD $25.00 - USD $28.37 /Hr.
