Position Overview

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment at a United Activities Unlimited (UAU) worksite. Reporting to the Program Director, Assistant Program Director, and Director of Community Initiatives, this role supports the Cornerstone department by performing daily cleaning, maintenance, and facility upkeep. The Custodian plays an essential role in ensuring the building meets health, safety, and operational standards, creating a welcoming environment for participants, staff, and visitors.
 
This position is located in Staten Island, NY. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of offices, classrooms, restrooms, kitchens, gymnasiums, and common areas.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, strip, and wax floors to maintain facility cleanliness.
  • Collect and dispose of trash while restocking restroom, kitchen, and breakroom supplies.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and report maintenance or repair needs to management.
  • Operate cleaning equipment and use chemicals safely in accordance with OSHA and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor and maintain cleaning supply inventory, requesting materials as needed.
  • Complete basic maintenance tasks and assist with heavy cleaning projects as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and organizational standards while maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 1 year of janitorial or related experience required.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, sanitation, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and perform basic maintenance.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand or walk for extended periods. 
  • OSHA certification preferred.

Pay Range

USD $17.50 - USD $17.50 /Hr.
