The Staten Island Workforce1 Career Center is partnering with the Community Agency for Senior Citizens (CASC) to find qualified candidates for a Kitchen Aide in Staten Island, New York. CASC assists Staten Islanders age 60 and older in living as independently as possible within their communities. The organization works closely with older adults, respecting their independence, life experiences, and personal choices while fostering supportive environments that promote healthy aging and community engagement.

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Cook/Assistant Director, the Kitchen Aide assists with meal preparation, food service, sanitation, and kitchen operations. This role helps ensure compliance with cleaning and food safety standards mandated by NYC Aging and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The Kitchen Aide plays an important role in supporting meal programs that serve older adults while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment.

 

This position is located in Staten Island, NY.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with meal preparation, cooking, portioning, and serving food.
  • Support meal service, including packaging and delivery of meals as needed.
  • Clean and sanitize pots, pans, utensils, trays, kitchen equipment, and food storage areas.
  • Empty waste baskets and garbage cans while maintaining sanitation standards.
  • Receive, unpack, label, and store food and supplies according to established procedures.
  • Take and record temperatures of meals, refrigerators, and freezers to ensure compliance.
  • Follow daily and weekly cleaning schedules and maintain highly used kitchen areas.
  • Provide coverage at other Older Adult Centers (OACs) and perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must have at least 6 months of experience in a kitchen position.
  • Must possess a NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Food Handler's Permit.
  • Senior center experience preferred.
  • Experience working with clients age 60 or older preferred,
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk, climb, stand, and perform physical tasks throughout the workday.
  • Willingness to work at either Older Adult Center (OAC) as needed and travel between OAC locations.
  • Please note that the shift for the Kitchen Aide position is 7:00 AM–3:00 PM. These hours are not negotiable. Candidates must be able to commit to this schedule in order to be considered for the position. 

Pay Range

USD $17.30 - USD $18.26 /Hr.
