Position Overview

The Patient Care Associate/Technician (PCA or PCT) provides direct support to patients in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and nursing homes under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. In this role, you will assist patients with daily care needs, monitor vital signs, and help maintain a safe and comfortable environment. You will work closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals to support quality patient care while following facility policies and 1199SEIU guidelines. 

 

This position is located in Staten Island, New York.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
  • Support patient mobility through transferring, repositioning, and ambulation.
  • Monitor and record patient vital signs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care activities.
  • Respond promptly to patient call lights and requests.
  • Assist with transporting patients throughout the facility.
  • Communicate patient concerns and status updates to nurses and other healthcare team members.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA regulations while providing compassionate patient care.

Requirements

  • Education: A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required. 
  • Experience: At least six (6) months of related direct patient care work experience is required.
  • Relevant Experience: Candidates must have recent experience in the field for which they are seeking consideration.
    • Experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Patient Care Technician (PCT), or Phlebotomist accepted.
    • Prior nursing assistant experience in a hospital or nursing home preferred.
    • DSP candidates must have experience taking vital signs.
    • Home care or private duty experience is not accepted.
  • Open Availability: Open availability for morning, day, evening, and overnight shifts required.
  • U.S. Work History: Candidates must have recent U.S. work experience and sufficient verifiable U.S. employment and/or educational history to successfully complete the required reference verification process.
  • Employment History: Candidates must demonstrate a stable and consistent work history.
  • Application Materials: Candidates must provide an updated resume and two recent professional references, including full mailing addresses and telephone numbers (references will be verified).
  • Work Authorization: Proof of employment eligibility is required.
  • Additional Requirements: Some positions may require healthcare experience, typing proficiency, bilingual skills, certifications, licenses, and/or a valid driver's license.
  • 1199SEIU Eligibility: Candidates who have previously interviewed with 1199SEIU or attended a 1199SEIU orientation are not eligible for consideration.

Pay Range

USD $25.00 - USD $28.00 /Hr.
