The Staten Island Workforce1 Career Center is partnering with Central Family Life Center (CFLC) to find qualified candidates for a Group Leader – COMPASS Elementary Program in Staten Island, NY. Central Family Life Center is a community-based organization dedicated to empowering children, youth, and families through educational, social, and community programs. The COMPASS Afterschool Program provides a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where students can learn, grow, and build positive relationships. CFLC is committed to helping young people succeed while strengthening families and the community.

Position Overview

The Group Leader is responsible for supervising a group of elementary school students during the COMPASS Afterschool Program while creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment. This role provides homework assistance, facilitates group activities, and encourages students' academic, social, and emotional development. Group Leaders also communicate with families, support daily program operations, and serve as positive role models for youth.

 

This position is located in Staten Island, NY.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and engage a group of up to 10 students during daily activities and transitions
  • Provide homework assistance, academic support, and positive encouragement
  • Facilitate clubs and group activities using provided curriculum and creative planning
  • Communicate with families regarding daily updates, behavior, and student accomplishments
  • Support children's social-emotional development through positive guidance
  • Ensure student safety and follow all program and DYCD protocols
  • Assist with attendance, snack distribution, transitions, and dismissal
  • Serve as a positive role model by promoting kindness, respect, and responsible behavior

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Some college coursework or youth development coursework preferred.
  • Experience working with children in an afterschool, camp, school, or community setting.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Reliable, patient, and committed to youth safety and development.
  • Creative, organized, and committed to CFLC's mission.
  • Previous afterschool, camp, or school experience preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain, preferred.

Pay Range

USD $20.00 - USD $20.00 /Hr.
