The Staten Island Workforce1 Career Center is partnering with The Central Family Life Center to find qualified candidates for an Activity Specialist – COMPASS Elementary Program in Staten Island, NY. The Central Family Life Center provides programs that strengthen families and promote community well-being through education, youth development, and community services. Position Overview

The Activity Specialist delivers engaging enrichment activities in a specialized content area such as arts, sports, STEAM, dance, music, literacy, or recreation. This role creates a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate environment where youth can learn, participate, and build confidence. The Activity Specialist works closely with program staff to provide high-quality programming that supports the goals of the COMPASS Elementary Program.

 

This position is located in Staten Island, NY.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging activities in a specialized content area.
  • Support a positive and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Facilitate structured youth groups that promote teamwork and relationship building.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized activity areas and equipment.
  • Manage group dynamics using Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies.
  • Collaborate with Group Leaders, Content Specialists, and program leadership.
  • Participate in program training and planning sessions.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise or experience in a specialized content area such as sports, arts, STEAM, dance, music, or similar programs required.
  • Experience working with children or youth preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and classroom/group management skills.
  • Commitment to safety, youth empowerment, and the organization's community-centered mission.
  • Creative, organized, and committed to empowering families and youth.
  • Specialized training, certification, or coursework in a related content area.
  • Experience leading clubs, workshops, or youth groups in afterschool or community-based settings.
  • Experience with SEL-based behavior management, familiarity with elementary and middle school youth development, ability to adapt activities for varying skill levels, CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain), and knowledge of culturally responsive and inclusive youth engagement practices is preferred.

Pay Range

USD $22.00 - USD $22.00 /Hr.
