Position Overview

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, supervision, and well-being of individuals with developmental disabilities. This role implements individualized plans of care, supports daily living activities, advocates for individuals in the community, and promotes skill development and independence. The DSP also maintains required documentation, supports positive behavior, and helps create a safe and supportive residential environment.

 

This position is located in Staten Island, NY.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate supervision, health, and safety of individuals and implement Individual Plans of Protective Oversight
  • Advocate for individuals in the community, including medical appointments, recreational activities, church services, and home visits
  • Assist with daily living skills, including personal hygiene, food preparation, housekeeping, laundry, and shopping
  • Administer medications as prescribed and ensure individual plans of care are followed
  • Complete daily progress notes, individual logs, and documentation of goals and outcomes
  • Support skill development, including social skills, fire safety training, and independent living skills
  • Plan and prepare balanced meals and maintain the residential unit in compliance with OPWDD and COA standards
  • Transport and escort individuals to appointments and community activities and remain on shift until relieved

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid NY, NJ, CT, or PA Driver's License required with six points or less
  • Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities required
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to safety
  • AMAP certification preferred
  • SCIP certification preferred
  • CPR certification preferred
  • First Aid certification preferred

Pay Range

USD $19.00 - USD $19.80 /Hr.
